Raipur/Delhi. Ravi Sinha, a 1988 batch IPS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, will be the new RAW chief. He will succeed the current Chief Samant Goel, IPS (Punjab 84), who retires on June 30. Ravi Sinha will hold the post for two years.
RAW – India’s International Intelligence Organization. It was formed in September 1968. When the Bureau of Investigation (which previously handled domestic and international matters) could not function well in the Indo-China War of 1962 and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. Due to which the Government of India felt the need of such an institution which could collect external information in an independent and efficient manner.
The main work of RAW is to collect information, stop terrorism and carry out secret operations etc. Along with this, it works on the information received from foreign governments, companies and humans so that the right advice can be given to the Indian policy makers.
