IMD said- soon the mercury will reach 45 degrees at some places
Bhubaneswar: After a brief lull, heat wave returned in the state on Tuesday with mercury levels reaching 40 degrees Celsius and above at at least 29 places. Baripada was the hottest at 43.6 degrees Celsius, which is the highest temperature so far this season, according to the IMD.
IMD officials cautioned that there will be no immediate relief from the situation as the heat wave will continue for the next four days with day temperatures reaching 45 degrees Celsius at some places between April 18 and 20. However, during this period, rain activities with isolated thunderstorms will continue at some places. this period.
Apart from Baripada, four more places – Nuapada, Paralakhemundi, Talcher and Boudh – recorded temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius and above that day. Similarly, 13 other places recorded temperatures of 41 degrees Celsius and above, while 11 other places recorded temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius and above. The temperature in the capital Bhubaneswar that day was recorded at 41.9 degrees Celsius, which according to officials was 4 degrees below normal.
Weather officials said the return of heatwave mainly due to north-westerly and westerly dry wind and high solar insolation will cause the day temperature to rise by 2 to 4 degrees in most parts of the state during the next three days. However, during the next four to five days the temperature in some districts will rise by 3 to 5 degrees above normal.
Accordingly, he advised people to take precautions while going out during the day, especially between 11 am and 3 pm. According to the IMD alert, heat wave is likely to continue till April 20 in parts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput and Malkangiri. Similarly, hot and humid weather conditions are likely to persist over parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati during this period.
