Protest in Sonipat against the Jantar Mantar lathi-charge.

Angered by the lathi-charge on students protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Zila Parishad member Sanjay Badvasaniya, along with his associates, staged a unique protest on Friday. He wore a yellow cloth tied around his head and had iron chains wrapped around his body.

Badvasaniya stated that while the BJP government champions the slogan “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter), the nation’s daughters were subjected to mistreatment in the capital. Citing threats to democracy and the Constitution, he explained that he had chained himself to register his protest.

He further added that people across the country stand in solidarity with the students and the youth. Referring to the alleged NEET paper leak and the subsequent suicides by students, he noted that the nation’s youth have taken to the streets and are protesting at Jantar Mantar to demand justice. He alleged that the BJP state president mocked the youth movement by calling the protesters “vagabonds.”

He also accused the BJP of being intoxicated by power and acting arbitrarily.

Anuj Jain, Rajesh Malik, and Anurag Jain stated that they would wholeheartedly support the youth for the sake of their future. They remarked that the people of the country now stand firmly with the students against injustice. They further added that the BJP’s double standards have been exposed to the public, and under the party’s rule, every section of society is unhappy and struggling for relief.
