Government allocated 11% of the budget for education: Pemmasani

Guntur: Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar said the State government is giving top priority to education by allocating nearly 11% of the state budget to the education sector. He said parent-teacher meetings are useful to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of students to give proper guidance for their bright future. He addressed the Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting 4.0 held at the Government Junior College here on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, he recalled that he had studied in a government school and a strong educational foundation laid by the teachers during his school days helped him to occupy this position.

He urged parents and students to download the LEAP app to monitor academic progress of the students. He said the coalition government is implementing welfare schemes like Thalliki Vandanam and Dokka Seethamma Mid-Day Meal Scheme besides distributing free textbooks to the students to ensure quality education for poor students. He said a school rating system based on attendance, academic performance, infrastructure and teaching quality was introduced to encourage competition among schools.

He said the government is implementing the ‘No Bag Day’ initiative to promote creativity through quizzes, debates and sports. Later, he interacted with girl students in a classroom and shared lunch with them.
