Himachal: Primary school building in bad condition, parents express concern

Himachal Pradesh: The dilapidated condition of the Government Primary School building at Ghargaon Palasho village under Bagh Pashog Panchayat of Sirmaur district has raised serious concerns about safety. Young children studying in the school are forced to study amid the constant threat of falling debris. This came to light in a recent School Management Committee (SMC) meeting. The meeting, chaired by committee chairman Rishipal Sharma, was attended by concerned parents and other locals of the area. The parents expressed their apprehensions about the dilapidated structure of the school building and stressed on the potential threats to the safety of their children. Many parents said that they would withdraw their children from the school if immediate steps were not taken to address the issue.

Highlighting the dilapidated condition of the school, chairman Rishipal Sharma said that pieces of plaster often fall from the ceiling, putting the students in constant danger. Fearing something untoward during class, parents are caught in a dilemma whether to send their children to school or keep them at home. Locals said they had earlier reported the matter to the authorities several times. However, no funds have been allocated to repair the building, leaving the community disappointed and frustrated. Chairman Rishipal Sharma appealed to the state government and the education minister to take immediate cognizance of the situation. He urged the district education department to immediately inspect the school premises and give priority to repairing the building to prevent any untoward incident. Parents and villagers warned that the current state of inaction may force them to send their children to other schools, disrupting their education and creating logistical challenges for the families.
