Himachal: Follow government orders while recruiting teachers, private schools warned

Himachal Pradesh: Just before the start of the new academic session, the education department (elementary) has issued strict guidelines to private schools across the state to ensure that the candidates clear the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and pass B.Ed for the recruitment of trained graduate teachers (TGTs). The department has recently made TET qualification a mandatory condition for JBT as well as TGT in private schools, similar to government schools in the state. Inquiries revealed that though TET is not universally applicable in all states, in view of the new education policy introduced in 2020, the National Council for Teacher Education has decided to make TET compulsory not only in government schools but also in private schools, keeping in mind the qualitative change in the education system.
The state elementary education department has also made it mandatory in all private schools across the state. Ajay Sambiyal, deputy director of elementary education, Dharamshala, told the Tribune that all private schools have been cautioned against violating the condition of TET qualification while recruiting teachers in their teaching institutions. He also asked the management of private schools to ensure timely renewal of recognition and accreditation of their institutions. “Besides this, private schools should also follow the mandatory guidelines for school buses used to transport students,” he said. Sambiyal said that if violation of mandatory conditions and guidelines is found during inspection, strict action will be taken against the erring schools.
