Goon Rule Unacceptable, Says CJI Suryakant in Tis Hazari Lawyer Attack Case

New Delhi: Chief Justice Suryakant said that the rule of law is unacceptable. The Supreme Court made these comments in the case of an attack on a lawyer in Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court. Responding to an urgent petition filed by the lawyer, the Supreme Court sought the protection of the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. On February 7, a lawyer representing an accused in the Tis Hazari Court was attacked in the court by a lawyer from another community and his men. The attack took place in front of the judge. The lawyer stated in his petition that the incident took place when everyone was present in the court.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Suryakant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and NV Anjaria responded to the petition and asked the Supreme Court whether the Delhi High Court CJ had been informed about the incident that took place on January 7. The Supreme Court CJ said that a letter had been written to the Delhi High Court CJ and that the letter should also be sent to him. Initially, the High Court Chief Justice should respond to this. However, the Supreme Court said that the administrative department would take action. It said that such a gangsterism is unacceptable to them, which means that the law has failed here. The court said that they should go to the High Court under their jurisdiction.
