Four fishermen feared dead in Dambur Lake, one dead body recovered

Agartala: At least four fishermen are feared dead after their temporary scaffold collapsed in Dambur lake due to Nor’wester winds in Tripura’s Dhalai district. Officials said one body has been recovered so far.

An official of the Dhalai district administration said fishermen often stay on temporary ‘platforms’ for fishing in the huge Dambur lake. “Late on Saturday night, due to nor’wester wind and rain, the temporary ‘platform’ collapsed and four fishermen fell into the deep waters of the lake,” the official told IANS. State disaster management personnel have recovered one body. NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) personnel have been called to help in the search operation.”

Senior officials of the district administration are camping in the area, 120 km south of Agartala. Detailed information about the accident is awaited. There is a hydropower project near the lake from where the state’s main river Gomti originates.
