Former Sarapanch along with Assistant Teacher convicted in vigilance corruption case

Phulbani: The Special Judge, Vigilance in Phulbani today convicted Biswambar Kanhar, the former Sarapanch of Bhrungijodi GP in Kandhamal district and Biswanath Kanhar, the Ex-GRS of Bhrungijodi GP, who is currently posted as assistant Teacher at Chitreswari Project Primary School in Kakatpur Block of Puri district were convicted in vigilance corruption case and sent to the jail.

The duo along with Baidehi Kanhar, the former Gram Sanjojak of Bhrungijodi GP, and Banambar Kanhar, a Labourer were charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a Case U/s 13(2)r/w 13(1)(c)(d) PC Act,1988/409/420/468/471/ 120-B IPC in connection with excess payment to labourers (Job Card holders) engaged in road works under MGNREG scheme.

The Special Vigilance Judge convicted Biswambar Kanhar and Biswanath for making excess payment to labourers (Job Card holders) engaged in road works under MGNREG scheme, and thereby misappropriating Govt. money, and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of four years and fine Rs 10,000.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Biswanath Kanhar from service following his conviction.

As the accused, Baidehi Kanhar and Banambar Kanhar did not appear today before the Court for hearing of sentence, NBW has been issued against them.

Aruna Kumar Nayak, Ex-DSP, Vigilance, Berhampur Division had investigated the case and V.V. Ram Das, Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Phulbani conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
