New Delhi: Former Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Rohit Arya has joined BJP. He retired about 3 months ago. Today he took membership of BJP in the presence of state party chief Dr. Raghavendra Sharma in Bhopal. On 12 September 2013, he was appointed as a judge of MP High Court and became a permanent judge on 26 March 2015. Under the chairmanship of former Justice Rohit Arya, decisions were given in many such cases which made a lot of headlines. These included the case of refusing bail to famous comedian Munawar Farooqui.
Rohit Arya is known for his tough attitude. In the year 2021, Justice Rohit Arya refused to grant bail to Munawar Farooqui on charges of hurting religious sentiments during the New Year program. In his order, Justice Rohit Arya emphasised the duty to promote the spirit of harmony and brotherhood, saying that the state should try to ensure that this ecosystem and existence of co-existence in our welfare society is not contaminated by negative forces. However, later the Supreme Court quashed the order of the High Court and granted bail to Munawar Farooqui.
In another case in the year 2020, he granted bail to the accused of insulting the dignity of a woman on the condition that on the day of Raksha Bandhan, he himself would appear before the complainant and get a Rakhi tied on his wrist and promise to protect her. This decision of Rohit Arya was also criticized a lot. Later, the Supreme Court overturned this decision of his. Apart from this, this year, while hearing a case, he also scolded the sub-inspector. This matter also came into a lot of discussion. In this case, the sub-inspector had threatened the district court to go to the High Court. When the case went to the High Court, Justice Rohit Arya, who was hearing the case, stopped the lawyers and reprimanded the sub-inspector for repeatedly interrupting them. He then said, “He is not even fit to be a constable. He is thinking himself above the judiciary.”
