Former alderman, under the influence of alcohol, assaulted a businessman at a wedding ceremony.

A drunken former alderman allegedly assaulted a businessman on stage during a wedding ceremony. The incident is said to be related to an old rivalry. Police have registered a case of assault and attempted murder against the accused. The incident occurred at Hotel Central Point International, where businessman Om Prakash Bajaj (58), a resident of Mangala Chowk, had arrived to attend his relative’s wedding on the night of October 28th. Former alderman Shyamlal Chandani was also present at the ceremony.

Drunken Dispute
According to reports, an argument broke out between the two at around 11 p.m. The former alderman was allegedly drunk and, during the conversation, said to Om Prakash Bajaj, “Shyamlal,” and began punching the businessman in the head and back. This sudden attack caused chaos at the wedding.

People who came to intervene were also threatened.
When Sharad Bajaj, the victim’s nephew, stepped forward to intervene, the accused threatened to kill him as well. According to the police complaint, the accused, under the influence of alcohol, used abusive language in front of several people and disrupted the atmosphere of the ceremony. Om Prakash Bajaj suffered injuries to his back and head in the incident. His family immediately rushed him to the hospital for treatment.

Dispute related to an old case of enmity
The background of the case is also quite serious. Businessman Om Prakash Bajaj had testified in the suicide case of his nephew Jitendra Bajaj. The accused in that case were Shyamlal Chandani and Om Prakash’s daughter-in-law, Lakshmi Bajaj. Although the case was later dismissed in court, Shyamlal Chandani had held a grudge against Om Prakash over this testimony ever since. According to sources, the former alderman, under the influence of alcohol, attacked him at the wedding ceremony due to this old enmity.

Police Register Case
On the victim’s complaint, the Chakarbhatta police station has registered a case against the accused, Shyamlal Chandani, under sections 294, 323, and 506 of the IPC for assault and intimidation. Police stated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing and the hotel’s CCTV footage is being examined. According to the station in-charge, hundreds of people were present at the event at the time of the incident, and the accused, under the influence of alcohol, created a ruckus in front of everyone. Police say that further action will be taken based on the evidence.

Sindhi Community Expresses Outrage
Following the incident, the victim, Om Prakash Bajaj, submitted a written complaint to Sindhi community officials. The complaint states that despite being a senior member of the community and a former public representative, Shyamlal Chandani, under the influence of alcohol, disrupted the ceremony and tarnished the community’s image. Members of the Sindhi community condemned the incident, stating that such behavior has hurt the dignity of the community and that strict action should be taken against the accused. Police have now launched a search for the accused. Shyamlal Chandani has reportedly been away from home since the incident. According to police sources, he may be arrested soon.
