Extensive preparations for mock drill in many states of the country including Chhattisgarh, central and state governments on alert regarding security

Mumbai: After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the central government has given priority to the safety of citizens and has instructed all states to organize mock drills for civil defense. Under this instruction, states like Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan have started preparations on a large scale.

Mock drills have been planned at 16 places in Maharashtra, which include Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik, Raigad, Uran, Tarapur and Konkan coast. At the same time, strong arrangements have been made for disaster management and civil security in Nagpur, Jodhpur and other cities. The Maharashtra government has declared high alert in the entire state in view of the possible threats arising after the Pahalgam incident. The administration has given strict instructions to all the concerned agencies to remain alert. The guardian ministers and other ministers of the state have been asked to remain in constant touch with the administration. 16 major places have been selected for the mock drill. Orders have been given to organize mock drills especially on the Konkan coast, as this area is strategically sensitive.
The Maharashtra government has activated all the resources by accelerating internal activities. The aim of the mock drill is to ensure the preparedness of the administration, coordination and safety of citizens in an emergency. Police, fire brigade, disaster management teams and other agencies are fully prepared for this. This drill will provide an opportunity to test the ability to deal with any emergency like war, terrorist attack or natural disaster.

Nagpur city has completed extensive preparations for the mock drill. The control room of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is the focal point of this exercise. The entire city is monitored from this control room. A public announcement system has been installed in the control room, through which information can be broadcast simultaneously at 54 major intersections of the city. Additionally, similar arrangements have been made in the Nagpur Police Control Room.

Every corner of the city is being monitored through CCTV cameras in Nagpur. LED screens and public announcement systems have been installed at major intersections, which are capable of giving immediate information to the citizens in case of emergency. The fire brigade operated by NMC is also fully prepared. All small and big vehicles of the fire brigade are deployed in action mode, so that quick action can be taken in any emergency.

It is clear from these preparations of Nagpur that the city administration is fully capable of dealing with any unpleasant situation. All these arrangements will be tested during the mock drill, so that the shortcomings can be removed and better coordination is ensured in future.

Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw, while issuing a statement regarding the mock drill, said that the Government of India has taken tough decisions after the Pahalgam incident. The central government is making necessary preparations keeping in mind all the possible dangers. Saw said that the Chhattisgarh government will fully follow the instructions of the Center and all necessary steps are being taken for the mock drill.

Jodhpur city of Rajasthan is also fully prepared for the mock drill. After the Pahalgam attack, on the instructions of the Union Home Ministry, civil defense preparations have been intensified in Jodhpur. The district administration has put disaster relief workers and civil defense teams on alert mode. There are 18 electric sirens and three hand sirens available in Jodhpur district, through which citizens will be informed in case of emergency.

Civil Defense officer Rajendra Chaudhary told news agency IANS that his team is fully prepared to deal with any emergency. He said, “Our teams remain alert at all times. We are able to control the situation by reaching the spot immediately with full material. We can ensure the safety of citizens even in a war-like situation.” He said that the 18 sirens installed in Jodhpur are useful in alerting citizens to move to safe places.

Similarly, Parsaram Chaudhary of Civil Defense said that his teams are ready for immediate action in case of any danger, such as air strike or building collapse.
