Doctor gives newborn an injection instead of syrup, resulting in death

Bijapur. A commotion erupted at the Awapalli Health Center in the Usur Block of the hospital following the death of a two-month-old infant. The family brought the two-month-old infant from Murdonda village in the Usur Block of Bijapur district to the Awapalli Health Center at 9 a.m. today after experiencing ill health. The child died during treatment. The family has accused the doctor and the nurse on duty of negligence. The incident has left the family inconsolable.

The family stated that the child was brought to the Awapalli Health Center at 9 a.m. with a mild fever, cold, and cough. During initial treatment, the doctor, instead of administering syrup or steam, inserted a cannula directly into the two-month-old’s arm and began administering injections one after another.

We requested the doctor and the nurse on duty to prescribe a syrup, but the doctor and nurse replied, “Don’t teach us what to do.” The family further stated that the child’s death was due to the negligence of both the doctor and the nurse. The administration should conduct an impartial investigation into this incident and take action against the culprits.
