Do not use newspaper to wrap oily snacks: Food Safety Department

Kerala: The Food Safety Department has said that only food grade packing material should be used to wrap food items in small businesses including thatched shops. FSSAI has banned the use of newspaper to grease oil-based snacks like samosas and pakodas. Guidelines have been issued to avoid chemicals like lead and dyes present in newsprint from getting directly into the food. Effective packaging will ensure that there is no change in the composition of the food. The Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety also said that food grade containers should be used as a safe way to pack and store food.
