New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested three wanted criminals from Jyoti Nagar area of the national capital after the encounter. A police officer gave this information on Tuesday.
The accused were identified as Arif alias Khalid (22), resident of Seelampur, Ali alias Fahad (23), resident of Jafrabad and Al Shahzan alias Tota (22).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Joy Tirkey said that around 01:30 AM during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, acting on a tip-off, the accused were arrested after an encounter near Ambedkar College, Jyoti Nagar. They were wanted in cases of murder and attempt to murder.
DCP said, “The police signaled the accused going on the scooter to stop, but instead of stopping, they fired at the police team and tried to run away. “In police retaliation, all three criminals were shot in the leg and injured.”
“The scooter being used by the criminals was stolen from Hazrat Nizamuddin police station in August, 2023,” the DCP said.
Police said that three sophisticated pistols with seven live cartridges were recovered from Arif, Ali and Al Shahzan.
DCP said, “All three were taken to GTB Hospital. A case under attempt to murder and Arms Act is being registered against them at Jyoti Nagar police station and efforts are being made to nab the remaining accused in the case.”
