Srinagar, November 30: The cold wave conditions intensified in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, with minimum temperatures dropping sharply in most areas last night, with many dropping well below the freezing point.
In the Kashmir Valley, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -4.4°C, making it another icy morning for residents. Several other areas also experienced severe cold, with Pahalgam dropping to -5.6°C, Kupwara to -5.0°C, and both Pampore and Anantnag to -6.0°C. However, Shopian remained the coldest in the valley, with a drop to -6.6°C, while Baramulla recorded a drop to -6.4°C. Gulmarg, a popular skiing destination, recorded a low of -1.4°C.
Qazigund and Awantipora recorded temperatures of -3.0°C and -4.4°C, respectively. Meanwhile, the Zojila Pass recorded a high of -15.0°C, and Zethan Rafiabad recorded a low of -5.5°C.
In the Jammu region, the cold intensified, with Jammu city recording a minimum temperature of 8.8°C. Higher elevations remained colder, with temperatures of -0.7°C in Banihal, 0.3°C in Bhaderwah, and 1.9°C in Samba. Cold conditions also persisted in Rajouri and Udhampur, where temperatures were recorded at 1.5°C and 3.0°C, respectively.
Other stations in the region, including Batote (4.5°C), Ramban (4.2°C), Kishtwar (4.0°C), Reasi (6.4°C), Doda (4.5°C), and Kathua (7.4°C), also experienced mild cold. Jammu Airport recorded a low of 8.3°C.
Temperatures dropped sharply in the Union Territory of Ladakh, with Nyoma recording the lowest temperature of -16.3°C. Drass (-12.4°C), Padum (-12.6°C), Tangste (-12.7°C), Upshi (-12.8°C), and Chuchot (-10.9°C) also experienced extreme cold. Leh recorded a low of -9.2°C, while Kargil recorded a low of -8.5°C.
