Paradip: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi flags off the ‘Boita Bandana’ festival in Paradip port today on the occasion of Kartik Purnima. The ‘Boita Bandana’ is a traditional activity to commemorate the historical maritime trade of old Odisha, called Kalinga.
Our traders sailed across the sea to trade in Java, Sumatra and Middle Eastern countries. To celebrate this maritime history people now float toy boats made of banana stems or paper in ponds and rivers all over Odisha.
“The ‘Boita Bandana’ celebrates the courage of our ancestors who braved the storming seas and went for trade to foreign lands. Today we commemorate the history of the thousand years through Boita Bandana,” said CM Majhi while gracing the event.
