CM expressed gratitude to PM Modi for giving reservation to ST in Goa Assembly

Panaji: The Modi government at the Center has recently approved the adjustment of seats in the Goa Assembly towards providing reservation to Scheduled Tribes. Due to this, the opportunities available to people belonging to Scheduled Tribes in politics have become wider. After this approval received from the Centre, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. For the last several years in Goa, Scheduled Caste people were demanding reservation in the Legislative Assembly. Recently, the delegation led by CM Pramod Sawant met Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
CM Sawant said, “I wholeheartedly thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the adjustment of seats in the Assembly towards providing reservation to the Scheduled Tribe people.” Apart from this, he also thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for helping the Scheduled Tribe people of Goa. “This is a big victory for the people of the Scheduled Tribe community of Goa,” the Chief Minister said. The Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes Bill, 2024 was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. After this step of the Centre, the way has been paved for reservation for women belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community in Goa. The Central Government said that it was mandatory to implement this law in order to protect the constitutional rights of women of the Scheduled Tribe community in Goa. A law is necessary to provide enabling provisions empowering the Election Commission. 2008 and the seats in the Legislative Assembly of Goa State for the Scheduled Tribes of the state have been readjusted.
