Chennai BJP terms DMK’s ₹8,000 coupon scheme a ‘fraud’

Chennai, April 13:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday claimed growing public anger against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). They alleged that its leaders were facing protests during campaigns in various constituencies.
Speaking to reporters at Kamalalayam, BJP state chief spokesperson Narayanan Tirupati said that voters were increasingly confronting DMK leaders. He alleged that sitting MLAs and ministers were facing public anger during campaigns.
Citing examples from several constituencies, he claimed that in Papanasam, voters stopped Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s campaign vehicle and staged protests. He alleged that similar incidents occurred in more than 25 constituencies, including Kunnam, Tiruchendur, and Aravakurichi, and said that some voters were boycotting DMK candidates.
Targeting the proposed ₹8,000 coupon scheme, Tirupati called it a “fraud” aimed at misleading voters. He alleged that fake coupons were already being printed and distributed in some constituencies and claimed that the scheme could lead to large-scale misuse of funds, benefiting businesses linked to party officials.
He also expressed concern about law and order and questioned Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on rising crime. Citing a rise in Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) cases and the spread of alcohol and drugs, he blamed a decline in governance and police inaction.
