Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: The Central Government has announced an increase in the purchase price of onion with the aim of providing relief to the farmers. On Friday, the government increased the purchase rate of onion to Rs 16.50 per kg. This new rate will be applicable from June 13 (Saturday). Earlier the purchase price of onion was Rs 15.80 per kg.
The objective of this decision of the government is to increase the income of onion producing farmers and ensure fair prices to them. After the increased purchase price, farmers will be able to get better prices for their produce, which is expected to strengthen their economic condition.
Before this decision, Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi had held a review meeting with senior officials of the department on Thursday. In this meeting, measures to make the onion procurement system more effective and benefit the farmers were discussed.
After the meeting, Minister Prahlad Joshi, while sharing the information on social media platform This will have a direct impact on the income of farmers and they will be able to get more stable prices.
The government said that the process of onion procurement was started from May 15 this year. Under this, onion is being procured from farmers as per the set target. However, this year the target of onion procurement was initially set at 3 lakh tonnes, which was later revised to 2 lakh tonnes.
The Central Government believes that this decision was necessary to maintain price stability in the market and protect farmers from losses. Onion is a major agricultural product whose price fluctuations have a direct impact on both farmers and consumers. In such a situation, increasing the purchase rate will help in maintaining balance in the market.
Experts believe that this step will provide relief to farmers, especially in areas where onion is cultivated extensively. The government has also indicated that in the coming times, the procurement system of agricultural products will be further strengthened so that farmers can get fair prices for their crops.
After this decision, positive response is being seen in the agriculture sector and farmers are hopeful that this will improve their income.
