Maharashtra: A shocking case concerning civic records has emerged in the Kalyan-Dombivli area, raising serious questions about the administrative system and the reliability of property records. The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has reportedly removed a residential property—standing for nearly 50 years—from its official database, even though the house still exists at the same location and is currently occupied by a family.
The issue escalated when the municipal corporation refused to accept property tax for the property in question. The corporation claims the house was demolished years ago during a road-widening project. However, the family has vehemently denied this claim, calling it completely false.
Located near the Gujarati Temple in the Govindwadi area, the property belongs to the Shaikh family, who have lived there for nearly five decades. According to the family, the house was originally registered in their father’s name, and they have consistently paid house tax and electricity bills for the property.
The sudden disappearance of the property from the KDMC’s records has sparked local concerns regarding administrative transparency and record management. The incident has triggered a debate on how an existing property could be removed from government records and at what level the lapse occurred.
The family states that they have never faced any dispute regarding their property and have paid all necessary taxes and bills on time for years. Consequently, the corporation’s classification of the property as non-existent and its refusal to accept tax payments have caused them significant surprise and distress.
This incident has raised serious questions about the municipal corporation’s functioning, record-updating systems, and accountability. Experts believe that such errors not only affect citizens’ rights but can also lead to legal disputes.
Local residents argue that if such cases are not properly investigated, property disputes could escalate in the future. They have demanded an impartial inquiry into the matter and a rectification of the records by the administration. Currently, this matter is a topic of discussion, and people are hoping that the Municipal Corporation will soon clarify this discrepancy and reveal the actual situation.
