Bus overturned in Uttarakhand, 30 injured

Uttarakhand: A bus (UK 04 PA 1716) of Uttarakhand depot overturned near Kandaghat on Solan-Shimla Highway-5 at around 1.50 pm today, injuring 30 passengers, six of them critically. The bus broke through barricades and fell into a tunnel after its driver rammed into the rear of a tipper while trying to overtake it. According to the tipper driver, who was going from Kalka to Shimla, the bus was being driven rashly and negligently. Meanwhile, police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the bus driver and started investigation, SP, Solan Gaurav Singh said. The bus was going from Shimla to Tanakpur in Uttarakhand and was carrying Nepali labourers who were returning home after working in apple orchards. According to the passengers, the bus developed a mechanical fault and overturned near Kandaghat. Of the six seriously injured passengers, four were referred to IGMC Shimla, while two others were taken to Solan Regional Hospital. The other injured passengers were discharged after first aid at Kandaghat Hospital.
