Mumbai: In an unfortunate incident, a boat with around 60 people onboard capsized near the Gateway of India in Mumbai this afternoon leading to the death of one individual and missing of at least 40 others.
According to the Indian Coast Guard officials, a ferry with approximately 60 people sank off the coast of Mumbai and 20 survivors have been rescued so far and are on board Indian Coast Guard ship Subhadra Kumari Chauhan.
One dead body has also been recovered while search operations are being carried out by Indian Coast Guard ships, the officials added.
“I have received preliminary information. Approximately 30 to 35 people have been on that boat. Out of them, 20 people have been rescued. Preliminary information is that 5 to 7 people are still missing. I will make a statement in the House as soon as I receive detailed information. The boat had left for Elephanta at around 3.15 pm,” ANI quoted Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis as saying.
