New Delhi: A very important meeting of the Congress Party is being held today before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. During this meeting the party can decide the names for its first list of Lok Sabha candidates. The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress party will meet in New Delhi at 6 pm on Thursday to finalize its candidates. Congress’s communication in-charge general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that this would be the first meeting of the party’s election committee. During this time, there can be a discussion on making former Congressman Rahul Gandhi contest from Amethi again. His sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is likely to make her debut in electoral politics.
While Rahul Gandhi is likely to be fielded again from Amethi and Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi can be fielded from Rae Bareli. Priyanka’s mother Sonia Gandhi was the Lok Sabha MP from Rae Bareli, but she vacated the seat last month to go to the Rajya Sabha. Ahead of the Congress Central Election Committee meeting, there is buzz in party circles that the Gandhi siblings are the best choices in an effort to win traditional strongholds. Although the Congress leadership did not confirm anything, Congress party’s Amethi district chief Pradeep Singhal on Wednesday said that Rahul Gandhi will be the party’s candidate from Amethi and his name will be announced soon.

Key party functionaries including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and other senior CEC leaders will participate in the meeting to be held today.
It is being said that Congress can release the list of 100 candidates today i.e. on March 7. It will also include the names of candidates from Rajasthan. Because screening committee meetings have been held for many states including Rajasthan. In Rajasthan, it is considered certain that the son of former CM Ashok Gehlot will get the ticket. There is every possibility of Vaibhav Gehlot getting the ticket from Jalore-Sirohi seat. Apart from this, the names of Ashok Chandna from Kota seat, Pramod Jain Bhaya from Baran-Jhalawar, Sanjana Jatav from Bharatpur, Manvendra Singh Jasol from Jodhpur and Murani Lal Meena from Dausa are considered certain to be approved.
Three seats in the national capital have gone to the Congress, which is contesting the elections with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) under the India Alliance. Among these, the names of Congress Delhi State President Arvinder Singh Lovely, Women’s Wing President Alka Lamba and Udit Raj for the reserved seat are being discussed. Apart from these, the Congress leadership wants former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Deepak Baij and Jyotsna Mahant to contest the Lok Sabha elections.
