Odisha: The Odisha government today held a crucial consultation meeting with stakeholders to prepare a master plan for the proposed “New City” project in Bhubaneswar. Various stakeholders involved in urban development participated in the meeting and discussed various aspects of the project.
The stakeholder consultation meeting was chaired by Usha Padhee, Additional Chief Secretary, Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department. The objective of the meeting was to have a comprehensive discussion on the proposed New City’s development model, infrastructure needs, and long-term urban planning.
The state government stated that the master plan for this ambitious project is being prepared by Surbana Jurong Infrastructure Private Limited, a renowned urban planning firm in Singapore, known internationally for its innovative and sustainable urban development plans.
The government also informed that a market feasibility study for this major urban development project has already been completed with the assistance of global consultancy firm JLL. Based on this study, the project’s economic and development potential was assessed.
Experts and stakeholders present at the meeting suggested that the New City project be developed in a way that would serve as a model for Odisha’s future urban development, prioritizing modern transportation systems, environmentally friendly infrastructure, housing facilities, and employment opportunities.
Officials stated that the project has the potential to reshape the state’s urban structure and is a step towards transforming Bhubaneswar into a smart and global city.
The government believes that after the master plan is finalized, the project will be implemented in a phased manner to ensure systematic and effective development. During this period, coordination will be maintained with all relevant departments and specialized agencies.
This meeting is considered a significant step towards the New City project, which could play a vital role in elevating Odisha’s urban identity in the coming years.
