Assam Chief Minister said on Angkita Dutta case- ‘Law will take its own course’

Guwahati (IANS) | Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday expressed his displeasure over the way the Congress handled the entire episode relating to Assam unit Youth Congress chief Angkita Dutta, who had accused Indian Youth Congress national president Srinivas B. V. has been accused of harassment. The way the Assam Congress has handled the matter is sad, he told reporters in Delhi. They should have constituted an inquiry committee and sorted things out among themselves. I believed that the Congress should deal with it internally.

He said that the Congress’s handling of the situation was disappointing, now that the case has been registered, the law will follow its course. According to him, if the party had heeded Dutta’s complaint, there would have been no need for the police or the CID to intervene.

The chief minister, however, ruled out the possibility of Angkita Dutta joining the BJP anytime soon. Meanwhile, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee chief Bhupen Bora claimed that Dutta was “influenced” by Sarma to file a police complaint.

I met him (Datta) and assured him of full support. I asked him to tell me about what had happened and he narrated the whole story in detail. I requested him to remain silent for some time and not to issue any public statement. I will look into the matter and find a way to solve it.

Borah said, but Dutta acted differently the next morning because of provocation from the Chief Minister of Assam.
