Kurud. Antisocial elements set fire to over three acres of paddy fields, destroying approximately 80 quintals of paddy belonging to four farmers. Farmers report losses worth lakhs. A few days ago, another farmer’s field was set on fire. Concerned by the ongoing incidents, local farmers have appealed to the police administration for crop protection.
The incident occurred in Bagdehi village under the Kurud police station. On Friday night, farmers Sudhir Sahu, Krishna Sahu, Pardeshi, and Girdhar Sahu had harvested their paddy and prepared four separate threshing bins for threshing. Unidentified individuals set them on fire.
Upon receiving the news, farmers attempted to extinguish the fire. With the help of local residents, water was brought in a tanker using a village tractor. However, due to the field’s location in a remote creek, the water supply was unable to reach the field in time, and the four paddy threshing bins were completely burned to ashes. The police team that reached the spot was told that in the incident, crops of farmers Sudhir Sahu measuring 75 decimals, Girdhar Sahu measuring 75 decimals, Krishna Sahu measuring 70 decimals and Pardeshi Sahu measuring 1 acre were burnt, and the administration has been asked to take action against the culprits and provide compensation.
