The actor claimed that the secret of his surname change was a gift from his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who was a famous poet.
The Bachchan surname was a creation of his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan. He said, “You will never know what our caste is because of our surname and Babuji did it intentionally.” He then explained that his father belongs to a Kayastha family from Uttar Pradesh and married his mother who was from a Sikh family. During his school admission, the actor mentioned that he wrote Bachchan instead of writing Srivastava. He adopted his pseudonym as a surname for the first time. Along with this, Big B then said that his father did not believe in the caste system and so he decided to change his surname. The actor also said that he is very lucky that he is the first member to be born in this family and carry forward the surname Bachchan. According to reports, Amitabh Bachchan not only changed his surname but also changed his real name. According to what was revealed, his name was Inquilab; but later on, taking the advice of poet Sumitranandan Pant, Harivansh Rai Bachchan changed his name from Inquilab to Amitabh.
