Adopt mission-oriented approach to combat drug menace: DIG to officers

Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Dr Sunil Gupta, chaired a late-night crime and security review meeting in Jammu on Saturday.
Joined by SSP Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar, supervisory officers, and district-level officers, the gathering focused on addressing the current crime landscape.
A statement said the SSP Jammu provided an overview of the district’s crime and security scenario in the meeting.
Emphasizing the need for expeditious resolution, DIG Gupta urged special efforts for pending cases, inquest proceedings, and stringent action against drug peddlers and anti-social elements.
The DIG advocated a mission-oriented approach to combat the drug menace, urging intensified efforts to identify and dismantle illicit drug trade networks.
The meeting underscored the importance of tracing missing persons, timely complaint disposal, and online grievance resolution.
To combat drugs, officers were directed to enhance surveillance using measures such as area domination, strengthened nakas, and increased CCTV surveillance. Vigilance on suspicious individuals was highlighted to counter anti-national elements and maintain a peaceful environment.
In the fight against crime, attendees were urged to increase the installation of CCTV cameras with meticulous record-keeping. Collaborating with local communities to facilitate installations was encouraged, enhancing surveillance capabilities for safer environments.
DIG Gupta reaffirmed an unwavering commitment to justice, urging investigating officers to ensure cases are resolved on their merits.
Various initiatives, including Operation Sanjeevani, Operation Pathshala, Operation Kamdhenu, Operation Avtar, Operation Third Eye, and Operation Meghdoot, were discussed to tackle different aspects of crime.
The meeting concluded with directives focused on effective implementation of strategies. The emphasis included reducing the pendency of under-investigation cases, time-bound complaint disposal, controlling the drug menace, combating vehicle theft, burglaries, and maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in district Jammu.
