Further said that on receipt of photographs of presence of outsiders near polling booths, police have been directed to investigate and make public announcement asking non-voters to leave the constituency immediately.

The voting for the reserved seat in Jalandhar is a four-cornered contest in the traditionally Dalit-dominated Doaba region, a Congress bastion.
In January this year, when Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra reached Punjab. Then Congress MP Santokh Chowdhary died of a heart attack while taking part in this yatra. The seat was vacant since then, necessitating a by-election.
