Heat wave alert issued for two days in parts of Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a heat wave alert in different parts of the state on Thursday and Friday.

On Wednesday, the state experienced widespread heat and humidity with day temperatures hovering above 40 degrees Celsius at most places.
The day’s highest temperature of 44.9 degrees Celsius was recorded at Devlapuram in Nandyal district, followed by Makkuva in Parvatipuram Manyam district and 44.3 degrees Celsius at Simhadripuram in YSR district, Ravikamattom in Anakapalle district, Manga Nellore in Tirupati district, 44.1 degrees Celsius at Ramabhadrapuram. to be done. and Tummikapalle of Vizianagaram district, and Donakonda of Prakasam district.

According to APSDMA, 67 divisions in the state faced scorching heat on Wednesday, while 125 divisions faced heatwave conditions.
It is estimated that there is a possibility of severe heat wave in 76 divisions and heat wave in 214 divisions on Thursday.
The public is advised to avoid outdoor activities during daytime between 11 am and 3 pm.
The IMD stressed the significant risks of elevated temperatures during the heatwave, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
These groups are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
Additionally, prolonged periods of extreme heat can lead to dehydration and put pressure on infrastructure such as power grids and transportation systems.
