Assam: Five tea garden workers injured in collision between ambulance and Bolero in Tinsukia

Doomdooma: Five tea garden workers were injured, two of them critically, after a Mahindra Bolero allegedly collided head-on with an ambulance at the Samdang Bypass in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Friday afternoon.

According to eyewitness accounts and sources, the ambulance (AS-01-RC-5579) was carrying five patients from Khowang Tea Estate to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) when it was hit by a speeding Mahindra Bolero (AS-01-DG-2445) coming from the Digboi side.

The injured have been identified as Dhaneshwar Nayak of Talap Tea Estate, Binod Prasad and Sunil Nayak of Khowang Tea Estate, Somari Nayak of Talap Laina Tea Estate, and Babul Kisan of Anand Tea Estate.

Hospital sources said two of the injured are in critical condition, while the others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The collision severely damaged both vehicles and caused panic among local residents, who assisted in rescue efforts before emergency services arrived.

Residents said accidents have become frequent on the Samdang Bypass due to alleged reckless driving and poor safety measures.

“Accidents occur frequently here. We demand immediate precautionary measures; otherwise, we will be compelled to launch an agitation,” an ATTSA leader told reporters at the scene.

Doomdooma Police and Co-District Superintendent of Police Diganta Dutta reached the site and supervised the rescue operation. All injured were shifted to hospital for treatment.

Police have arrested the driver of the Bolero, and a case has been registered.
