APLS, Tony Koyu, Lumar Dai, Literary Award,

PASIGHAT, 12 Jun: The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) conferred the prestigious Lummer Dai Literary Award-2026 upon Tony Koyu,in recognition of his significant contributions to literature and society.

The Lummer Dai Literary Award was celebrated with great enthusiasm and literary fervour at IGJ Government Higher Secondary School here in East Siang district on Friday.

The event brought together writers, intellectuals, students, and literary enthusiasts to honour the enduring legacy of renowned litterateur Lummer Dai,and to promote the rich literary traditions of Arunachal.

The event featured captivating literary performances, including Assamese and Hindi poetry recitations, reflecting the spirit of cultural diversity and literary expression.

Speakers highlighted the invaluable contributions of Lummer Dai in nurturing indigenous literature and inspiring generations of writers across the state.

 In his acceptance speech, Koyu expressed gratitude for the honour, and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting literature, culture, and intellectual discourse.

On the occasion, distinguished literary personalities and contributors – Dr N Lego, Arak Megu, Maliyang Perme, Mading Pertin and Ato Lego – were also felicitated for their noteworthy contributions towards the promotion of literature and cultural heritage.

Addressing the gathering, former chief minister Mukut Mithi underscored the role of literature in preserving indigenous knowledge systems, strengthening cultural identity, and shaping a progressive society.

Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering lauded the efforts of the APLS in nurturing literary talent and creating platforms for creative expression.

APLS leaders emphasised the need to document oral traditions, encourage young writers, and safeguard the linguistic heritage of Arunachal in an increasingly globalised world.

APLS executive president Batem Pertin also spoke.

Earlier, the programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries,including office bearers of the APLS and awardee Tony Koyu, symbolising the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment through literature.
