Chennai: Chief Minister inaugurates and participates in an awareness marathon on Anti-Doping Day.

Tamil Nadu: A special marathon was organized in Chennai to raise awareness against drug abuse on the occasion of International Anti-Doping Day. Held today, June 26, by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, the event aimed to highlight the harmful effects of drugs on society and inspire the youth to lead a drug-free life.
The main event of this awareness marathon took place near the Anna Memorial on Kamarajar Salai, Chennai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister S. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the event. A large number of participants, sports officials, administrative officers, and citizens were present at the inauguration. Crowds began gathering at the venue early in the morning, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and a spirit of awareness.
Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister administered a pledge to all those present to work towards the eradication of drug abuse. Participants vowed to stay away from drugs and to raise awareness among others about the issue. This pledge was a significant part of the event, leaving a deep impact on the attendees.
Subsequently, the marathon commenced, with Chief Minister S. Joseph Vijay himself participating. Running amidst the crowd in a rally-like format, he conveyed the message of awareness. Several senior ministers and administrative officials were also present on the occasion. These included Ministers Adhav Arjun, N. Anand, Maria Wilson, and Venkataramanan. Additionally, the State Director General of Police (DGP), the Chennai Police Commissioner, the Chief Secretary, and other senior officials attended the event, all contributing to the success of the campaign.
Special arrangements were made regarding security and logistics for the marathon. Police personnel were deployed along the entire route to ensure the event concluded peacefully and in an orderly manner. Facilities such as water, first aid, and other essentials were also provided for the convenience of the participants. Medical teams and security personnel remained constantly active at the event venue.
During the program, the Chief Minister stated that substance abuse affects not only an individual’s health but also the entire family and society. He urged the youth to shun such habits and focus instead on education, sports, and positive activities. He also mentioned that the government is continuously running awareness campaigns in this regard and that similar programs will be organized in the future.
Participants in the marathon also lauded the initiative. They remarked that such events send a strong message to society and inspire the youth to move in the right direction. Many noted that the impact is significantly amplified when the state’s top leadership personally participates in such programs.
The entire area surrounding the Anna Memorial resembled a massive public movement during the event. A large number of students, athletes, youth groups, and members of social organizations took part. Together, they conveyed a message of solidarity against substance abuse and pledged to cooperate in making society drug-free.
At the conclusion of the event, officials stated that such awareness activities would continue. They emphasized that guiding the youth toward a positive path through sports and fitness is a government priority. Such events foster a spirit of health and discipline within society.
