Preserve tradition, language, culture: DCM

NAMSAI: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein stressed the need to preserve traditional languages, vocabulary, customs and cultural identity, observing that many ancient words and practices are gradually disappearing.

Addressing a felicitation programme for meritorious students of Classes 10 and 12 (Session 2026-26) here on Sunday, the DCM also called for strengthening cultural unity while respecting the unique identity of the Tai community, so that future generations remain connected to their rich heritage.

Mein congratulated the meritorious students on their academic achievements, lauded their dedication, hard work and perseverance, and highlighted the remarkable progress made in the field of education over the years in the state.

He stated that today, improved educational infrastructure, better access to institutions, and expanded opportunities for higher learning have created a more conducive environment for students. He urged the students to take advantage of such opportunities and pursue their higher education with dedication.

He urged them to remain focused, continue learning, and strive towards their goals with perseverance and determination.

Namsai MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom highlighted the opportunities and challenges of the modern era, stressing the importance of focus, discipline and continuous learning in achieving success. He said that academic scores alone do not determine one’s future, and that perseverance, dedication and a clear sense of purpose can help individuals overcome limitations and achieve their goals.

Emphasising the value of education in every sphere of life, he encouraged students to acquire knowledge and skills that will enable them to contribute meaningfully to society. He also urged the youths to stay away from drugs and social evils, uphold good values, and remain connected to their cultural roots, history and identity.

The programme, held under the theme ‘Honouring Excellence, Preserving Heritage, Inspiring Future Generations,’ witnessed the felicitation of meritorious students of Classes 10 and 12, along with special achievers.

The event was attended by members of the All Tai Singpho Council, Tai Khamti Development Society, Tai Khamti Students Union, All Namsai Youth Association, ATASU office bearers, community leaders, teachers, parents and students.
