Popularity of refrigerated train increased in Chennai Railways, 1.24 lakh passengers traveled in May
Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Amidst the increasing heat in Tamil Nadu, the refrigerated suburban train service of Chennai Railway Division has gained immense popularity among the passengers. A record 1.24 lakh people traveled in this train in the month of May, while a total of 4.36 lakh passengers used the refrigerated train in the last five months of this year.
According to a press release issued by the Chennai Railway Division, the 10-coach refrigerated suburban train service between Chennai Beach, Tambaram and Chengalpattu was started last year. Initially it was run for the convenience of common commuters and people commuting to office on daily basis. But its popularity increased rapidly during the summer season.
Railway officials said that due to extreme heat and humidity, passengers preferred this AC train service. People appreciated this feature and started using it regularly. This makes it clear that coolness and comfort have become important factors in traveling during summer.
Railway officials in the press release said that since the introduction of the train last year, there has been a steady increase in the number of passengers. Especially in the months of April and May, the number of passengers traveling in this train increased. A record 1.24 lakh passengers used this refrigerated train in May, which is indicative of the success of this service.
Chennai Railway Division said that the objective of starting this service was not only to provide convenience to the passengers in summer, but also to make the daily commute comfortable and safe. The Railway Department says that keeping in mind the experience and convenience of the passengers, complete arrangements for cooling have been made in this train.
Railway officials said that this service will be run regularly in the coming months also and adding more coaches can be considered if needed. He says that the increasing number of passengers and their response makes it clear that the option of AC train service will remain important in future also.
