Assam: The Sribhumi administration has denied the allegations of SR misconduct.

SILCHAR: Amid serious allegations from opposition parties, as well as a section of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), regarding large-scale irregularities in the Special Revision (SR) of the electoral roll in Srikona, the district administration on Thursday refuted all the allegations.

The Srikona district administration stated that it has taken note of certain claims circulating on social media regarding objections to and deletions of entries in the electoral roll.

Recently, the District Congress had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner alleging that local election officials were pressuring BLOs to remove the names of genuine voters from the electoral roll.

However, the district administration clarified that all matters related to the electoral roll were processed strictly in accordance with the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, and the instructions of the Election Commission of India. It stated that no voter’s entry was deleted or modified without proper verification and completion of the prescribed legal process.

The district administration further claimed that during routine checks and field-level verification, if it was observed that certain representations did not meet the mandatory legal requirements, such cases were not taken on record for processing, and therefore, no voter’s entry was deleted or modified on that basis.

It was also clarified that verifying the veracity of claims and objections and submitting reports to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) is part of the core duties of Booth Level Officers, and all BLOs were consistently instructed to do so in accordance with existing laws and rules. Furthermore, all claims and objections were regularly shared with all political parties on a weekly basis, it added.

The district administration reiterated that modifications to the electoral roll can only be made through the proper process, which includes verification by field officers and adherence to all procedural safeguards.
