Punjab: 2 Pakistan-backed terror modules busted, 4 arrested

Punjab: Days after the hand grenade attack on the Gurdaspur (City) police station, DIG (Border Range) Sandeep Goyal on Monday announced the busting of two Pakistani terrorist modules, leading to the arrest of four individuals, including those directly involved in the police station attack. Police seized a hand grenade and two pistols from the accused. According to the DIG, the module was run by Shahzad Bhatti, a Pakistani-based ISI-backed gangster-turned-terrorist. He, along with Indian gangster Jason Akhtar, wanted in the Baba Siddiqui murder case, and Amandeep Singh alias Pannu of Gurdaspur, were conspiring to carry out grenade attacks on government and police installations in Punjab and other parts of the country.
The DIG said that Amandeep was responsible for recruiting vulnerable youth by promising them monetary rewards and helping them settle illegally in the USA. He also supplied them with explosives to carry out the attacks. Following the grenade attack on the Gurdaspur City Police Station on November 25, police arrested Gurdit Singh of Gurdaspur and Pradeep of Hoshiarpur. Two more members of the module, Hargunpreet Singh of Zira and Vijay Prajapati of Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh), were arrested by Delhi Police. Another accomplice has been identified, and teams have been sent to apprehend him. The arrested accused will be brought to Punjab on production warrants for further interrogation. During the investigation, police also uncovered another terrorist module that was planning a similar attack.
