Parliamentary Committee visits India-China border, reviews security preparedness at Nathu La

GANGTOK : A delegation of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, led by its chairperson and Member of Parliament, RajyaSabha, Dr Radha Mohan Das Agarwal, visited NathuLa Pass today as part of a two-day official visit to the State.

The delegation included Member of Parliament, RajyaSabha, Sanjay Singh and Members of Parliament, LokSabha, DelkarKalabenMohanbhai, B.Y. Raghavendra, and MuhammedHamdullahSayeed.

Upon their arrival at NathuLa Pass, the delegation was accorded a warm welcome by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Black Cat Division, Major General AshishNegi.

The delegation later interacted with officers of the Indian Army and received a comprehensive briefing on various aspects of border management and national security. The briefing focused on various aspects of border management, regulated cross-border movement, measures to prevent human trafficking, communication and connectivity, civil-military coordination, infrastructure development and coordinated efforts towards ensuring effective administration and public safety in the region. The members were also apprised of the Indian Army’s professionalism, operational preparedness and distinguished service, highlighting the strategic importance of the NathuLa sector and the Army’s continued commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders under challenging terrain and weather conditions.

Following the visit, the delegation is scheduled to hold further engagements with representatives of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), senior State Government officials and public sector banks.
