The government’s focus is on the sale of liquor rather than the welfare of farmers

Nalgonda: Former minister and Siddipet MLA Harish Rao alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has shown keen interest in the sale of liquor recently. During a visit to the paddy procurement centre at Marriguda in Munugode constituency of Nalgonda district, he remarked that the government was not questioning officials or mill owners about the lack of paddy procurement but was issuing memos to excise officials not to promote liquor sales. Rao said memos have been issued to 25 circle inspectors. The BRS leader criticised that the government was not fulfilling the promises made to women during the election campaign (such as giving Rs 2,500 to every woman and Rs 1 lakh to them as interest-free loan). Instead, the government is flooding the state with liquor, which is especially disastrous for poor families. He alleged that the Chief Minister was only interested in increasing revenue but was not concerned about the welfare of the people. Rao said there was no discussion on whether farmers received investment support or not, whether loans were waived or not, whether bonuses were paid on time or not, or whether procurement centres were set up or not.

The government had announced that it would buy 90 lakh metric tonnes of foodgrains, but the current situation shows that the procurement will not even reach 40 lakh metric tonnes.

Middlemen from neighbouring states are coming into the state and looting paddy farmers at low prices.

Swearing by Yadagirigutta Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, the CM promised a loan waiver of Rs 2 lakh for farmers, but after coming to power, he cheated the farmers.

Farmers were very upset under Revanth Reddy’s rule. The government completely failed not only in the procurement of paddy but also cotton.

Rao, on behalf of BRS, demanded that the Congress government fulfill its promise of giving Rs 15,000 under the ‘Raithu Bandhu’ scheme for farmers.
