70-year connection between Trichy and DMK

Tamil Nadu: At the DMK State Conference held in Sirukanur, Trichy, on Monday, Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin spoke about the more than 70-year-old relationship between Trichy and the DMK.
Regarding this, he said at the conference: Why are we choosing Trichy for the State Conference? It’s not just the heart of Tamil Nadu; it’s the party’s conference area. What we’re holding today is the 12th State Conference. Seven of these 12 conferences have been held in Trichy.
The second State Conference was held in 1956; the sixth in 1990, the eighth in 1996, the ninth in 2006, the tenth in 2014, and the eleventh in 2021. Now, the 12th State Conference is being held.
Anti-Hindi Protests: Periyar Avra built and lived in a mansion in Trichy. Periyar Evera, who never deviated from his ideology despite leading different movements, and Perarigna Anna were in the same jail for different cases.
It was in Trichy that Periyar Evera and Karunanidhi protested, one at one end of the Trichy railway station junction, and the other at the other, for the destruction of the Hindi script. It was in Trichy that Karunanidhi was arrested and jailed during the Kallakudi protests. Then, in 1953, when my mother, Dayalu Ammal, brought me as a child and showed me to Chief Minister Karunanidhi, he was in Trichy jail.
Trichy has a twist: the Kulithalai constituency that first elected Karunanidhi to the Assembly was located in Trichy. After Anna’s death, Karunanidhi gave us five great slogans in Trichy.
That’s why I say this. When I say Trichy, it means a revolution. When I say Trichy, it means an upliftment. When I say Trichy, it means a great victory. Today, in this very Trichy, we have gathered to fulfill a great historical responsibility.
In 1956, at this very Trichy conference, Perarigna Anna decided to contest the elections after millions of volunteers voted for him. It has been 70 years since that happened.
At this time, we, inspired by Periyar, taught by the great scholar Anna, and guided by Karunanidhi, must pledge at this conference that we will continue to rule Tamil Nadu, said Chief Minister Stalin.
