64th Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal arrested three for gold smuggling
Guwahati: The 64th battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on Monday caught three Indian nationals involved in illegal gold smuggling at border post Daranga. Sh. Commandant Kanhaiya Singh of 64th Battalion (SSB) received information that some people were smuggling gold worth lakhs of rupees into Indian territory by crossing the border from Bhutan. To resolve this issue he formed a team under the supervision of Shri.
Prashant Gautam, Deputy Commandant, 64th Battalion. The team was led by Assistant Commandant Shri. Devan Singh. The operation was carried out with utmost caution and resulted in the seizure of smuggled gold biscuits.
About 2 kg and 60 grams of 24 carat gold in the form of 103 biscuits, estimated to be worth Rs 1.3 crore, was seized from the arrested persons. Additionally, Rs 112,600 were seized. Indian currency and Rs 2,705 foreign currency were seized from them. These people were trying to take the smuggled gold to Mumbai by crossing the border.
The incident occurred within a kilometer of the international border between Bhutan and India near Daranga Border Interaction Team (BIT) of 64th Battalion SSB, and was lauded for the successful operation led by Shri. Kanhaiya Singh, CO 64 Bn and his team.
