5-member SIT formed to investigate Kolkata law college sexual assault case

Kolkata: A five-member SIT has been formed under the supervision of ACP Pradip Kumar Ghosal, SSD, to investigate the alleged gangrape incident at South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata on 25th June evening, said Kolkata Police
According to reports, the three accused Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay, who the Police have named, have been remanded to police custody till July 1.
In another shocking incident reminiscent of the previous tragedy in RGâŻKar Medical College, three suspects have been detained in regard to the reported gang-rape of a female student at a law college in Kasba, Kolkata.
The arrest of two current students and one alumnus was conducted after quick action by the police following the complaint by the survivor. The unidentified victim, whose health recently deteriorated, filed her first information report (FIR) following the suspected assault that occurred between 7:30âŻpm and 8:50âŻpm on June 25.
Police arrested two current law students from the Talbagan region Thursday evening; further interrogation resulted in the arrest of a former student, who is the prime suspect. The survivor was taken for a medical test at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. Meanwhile, forensic experts are sweeping through the crime scene to collect more evidence.
All three accused are likely to be produced in court later today. The police have not closed the doors on more arrests as the probe continues. The incident has once again sparked political rhetoric and allegations. BJP IT-cell head Amit Malviya called the incident âhorrific,â attributing it to Trinamool Congress members and comparing it to the sensational RGâŻKar case. âThe horror of RGâŻKar hasnât dissipated, yet similar ghastly crimes keep piling up daily in Bengal,â he stated.
This disturbing incident follows less than a year after an AugustâŻ2024 rapeâmurder of a 31âyearâold trainee doctor within RGâŻKar Medical College, which led to countrywide protests and calls for added security measures in schools.
