5-day Chilika Shelduck International Folk Festival begins in Odisha’s Khordha

Khordha: The five-day Chilika Shelduck International Folk Festival 2024 commenced in Odisha’s Khordha district on Saturday.

The festival which celebrates the traditions and cultural heritage of Odisha is held at the Purvasha Folk and Tribal Art Museum in Khordha. The five-day event will conclude on November 13.

Speaking to ANI about the festival, Odisha Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said, “We came to the Purvasha Folk and Tribal Art Museum for the Carnival festival. The Art Centre aims to conserve and showcase to the world Odisha’s rich art and culture. It is a matter of pride for all of us. The state government will do whatever is required to take this process forward.”

PK Das, Founder of Odiart Centre said that Vietnam and Korean troops will be performing with Indian troops with Percussion instruments at the festival.

The Chilika Shelduck International Folk Festival 2024 was launched by the Society for Development of Rural Literature.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the Chilika Shelduck International Folk Carnival is a grand celebration that pays tribute to Asia’s vast cultural heritage. Set along the picturesque Chilika Lake, the festival unites rhythms, colours, and flavours from across Asia, creating a unique convergence of folk traditions and contemporary cultural exchanges.

This year’s theme, “Rhythms of Asia: A Fusion of Beats”, brings together a wide array of performances by international artists from Vietnam, South Korea, and across India, all focused on the powerful art of percussion.

Visitors can enjoy live folk performances by troupes from Vietnam, South Korea, and across India, blending traditional dance, music, and percussion.
The festival also includes a heritage cuisine showcase featuring authentic Chilika flavours, providing a taste of Odisha’s culinary traditions.
