2 kg heroin seized near Indo-Pak border

Abohar: In a joint operation, BSF jawans and the police today seized a packet containing more than 2 kg of heroin lying in a field at Chak 37H village in Sriganganagar, which is situated near the International Border.

A cellphone and water bottles were also found at the spot. The police said the packet had 2.12 kg of heroin and its international market value was Rs 12 crore.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the contraband was dropped through a drone by Pakistan-based smugglers on Thursday night.

The police said after receiving information about the drone activity, they increased patrolling in the area to nab the smugglers.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Gajsinghpur police station.

A few days ago, security agencies had seized 2.32 kg of heroin from three youths of Tarn Taran.

Poppy husk worth Rs 5 crore seized The police have seized poppy husk worth Rs 5 crore being transported in a truck near Hanumangarh today.

The driver of the truck has been identified as Daljit Singh, a resident of Saliana village, Moga. Acting on a tip-off, the police team set up a naka on the highway. Cops said they signaled a truck to stop and during its inspection, the team found bags containing poppy husk hidden under the rice bags. The police recovered 30 quintals of poppy husk.

SP Jai Yadav, who supervised the operation, said Daljit was an inter-state drug smuggler.

To smuggle the contraband, he used a container truck with “parcel” written on it to hoodwink the cops. Yadav said Daljit had been booked under the NDPS Act.
