Youth shot dead in fear of gang war

A 26-year-old youth was shot dead while he was sitting at a tea stall in Mehandipur village of the district here today.

The police suspect gang-war behind the crime.

The deceased was identified as Nikhil of Mehandipur village. He was allegedly involved in over 10 criminal cases, including murder, and was recently released on bail.

Phool Singh, uncle of the deceased, said Nikhil had opened the tea stall a week ago at the gate of the Murtal grain market.

He, along with Vishal, Chand and Nikhil, was sitting at the tea stall when four youths on two motorcycles came there and fired at Nikhil, killing him on the spot. They also fired a shot at him, said Phool Singh.

The police reached the spot and registered a case against four unknown assailants under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and began a probe in the matter.
