Youth killed in firing in Odisha’s Jajpur town

Odisha: A young man, who was seriously injured in a late-night firing incident in Jajpur city, succumbed to his injuries today. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Monday night near the Kalimegha area under the jurisdiction of the Jajpur Town Police. The deceased has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Samal, a resident of Kuansarpur.

According to reports, Samal, who ran a poultry business, was returning home when unknown assailants opened fire on him near the residence of former MLA Pranab Prakash Das. The attackers reportedly arrived on a motorcycle and fled the scene after firing.

Samal was seriously injured and was initially admitted to the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital. He was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for better treatment. However, he died during treatment.

The motive behind the attack is still unclear, and the attackers have not yet been identified. Police have reached the scene and launched an investigation.
