Yellow warning for heavy rain in several districts of Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in several districts of Tamil Nadu. According to a press release issued by the department on Sunday, the weather is expected to remain unstable in many parts of the state for the next few days, and thunderstorms are possible.

The Meteorological Department stated that this change in weather is being observed due to the atmospheric circulation formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas. Due to this, light rain and thunderstorms are likely to occur at one or two places in many areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from Monday (May 25) to May 30.

The warning has been issued for severe weather in many districts, especially on Monday. These include the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Salem, Dhammapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Trichy, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Theni, and Madurai. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is expected at isolated places in these districts.

The Meteorological Department has stated that these conditions may cause waterlogging, reduced visibility, and disrupt normal life in some areas. Heavy rain, especially in hilly and rural areas, may increase localized problems. The administration has also been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures.

The department has appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel and stay in open spaces during bad weather, especially when there is a possibility of lightning. Farmers and people living in rural areas have also been advised to take necessary precautions in view of the weather conditions.

For the past few days, light rain has been recorded in some parts of the state, but its intensity is now expected to increase in the coming days. According to weather experts, this change is the result of a shift in the weather system.

In light of the weather department’s warning, the state administration has also directed disaster management teams in the respective districts to remain alert so that immediate action can be taken in case of any emergency.
