World Red Cross Day to be Celebrated in Kohima with a ‘Walk for Humanity’ – A Message of Solidarity

Nagaland: The Nagaland State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society will celebrate World Red Cross Day on May 8 by organizing a public awareness program titled ‘Walk for Humanity’ in Kohima. The objective of this program is to foster a spirit of humanitarian service, compassion, and solidarity among the people.

This event is being organized in alignment with this year’s global theme, ‘United for Humanity.’ The aim of this theme is to bring people together and strengthen the spirit of service amidst the growing social and humanitarian challenges facing the world today.

World Red Cross Day is observed annually on May 8. This day marks the birth anniversary of Jean Henry Dunant—the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Dunant is renowned for his contributions to humanitarian service and for his efforts to aid people affected by war.

Officials from the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch, shared details regarding this event during a press briefing. The briefing was led by General Secretary Akhale Khamo. He explained that the primary objective of this year’s theme is to further reinforce the emotional and social dimensions of humanitarian work.

The officials further stated that through initiatives such as the ‘Walk for Humanity,’ awareness within society will be heightened, and efforts will be made to engage a greater number of people in humanitarian activities.

Various social organizations, youth groups, and volunteers are expected to participate in this event. During the program, attendees will also be provided with information regarding the activities and the pivotal role played by the Red Cross.
