Won’t ‘butter’ people for votes: Gadkari

Nagpur (IANS) | Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is known for his quick, forthright and outspoken comments and has sometimes landed in controversies. He emphatically declared on Monday that he was not ready to ‘butter’ people for votes. He said, “I stubbornly do many experiments in the country, including biofuels and watershed protection. If people like it, then fine, otherwise don’t vote for me. I am not ready to butter more for popular politics Am.” He said this at the Dr. Mohan Dharia Nation Building Award ceremony organized by a local NGO here.

Gadkari said that there is a lot of scope for experimentation in areas like water conservation, climate change and judicious use of wastelands and work is being done diligently in those areas.

He said, “I do it out of love.”

“In future, we will have to work with full force in this area as it can change not only India’s economy but also the face of rural areas,” he added.

The Union Minister also said that he has started many such works across the country.

“If people like it, people will vote for me, otherwise they will reject me. I am not ready to butter more for vote bank politics. They can replace me with someone else,” he said.

Former BJP national president Gadkari said that politics is not a business to earn money, but it also means social work, solving national issues and doing developmental work. He said, “Socio-economic change is the main goal of politics.”

He also said that sustainable development is the key to success in the modern world.

“Development will not sustain without environment and development is equally important in the modern world.”
